Character: Haseo
Age:18
Canon: .hack//G.U.
Canon Point: The moment after defeating Cubia
Background: Here is a link to the .hack Wiki, which details Haseo's roles thoroughly. The only information that matters to this application is the .hack//G.U. Games. ROOTS is considered canon, but Haseo's personality and characterization definitely draws more from the games than the anime.
Personality: As a character that has already grown quite a bit from his experiences, Haseo is a lot more mature as a person than he used to be. Where he used to be quite bad at trusting others, he's changed to bring people closer and let them help him when problems are too large for only one person to handle. He wants to trust his friends and companions, instead of pushing them away... it's something that's very new and foreign to him, but he works on making it a more natural habit. Still, he's slow to make new friends even if he is trying to overcome his previously cold demeanor. The anxieties about his friends getting hurt, being attacked or falling into a coma still weigh on him at times, even though he's saved all of them now that Ovan (and Cubia) have finally been defeated.
Still, when he does get over the hurdle of making friendships he becomes deeply dedicated and loyal to protecting them. He stumbles and makes social mistakes, but he makes up for it with his actions, going to great lengths for his friends by doing anything from becoming their leader in a time of need to fighting in extremely dangerous situations to save their lives. He plays The World nonstop for six months alone to try and solve the mystery of Shino's coma, and he aggressively defends the other friends he makes along the way from PKs and AIDA alike. He's considerate of his friends' wishes and wellbeing and always incorporates that into his motivation, stating many times that he wants to save the Lost Ones (those that have fallen comatose in The World) and just as often stating that he wants to make The World safe and fun to play in for his normal friends like Silabus and Gaspard. He values other people's happiness and accounts for it in his actions. Actions which, of course, are almost impossible to dissuade; once Haseo has set his mind, it is nearly impossible to change it no matter what sort of persuasion or pressure is applied. It's never something for himself that he fights for, not directly - if he wants something to benefit himself, it's ultimately something he finds necessary to help someone else.
Still, his relentless drive and heated stubbornness aren't his only emotional state. No matter how much he wants to be friendly to the people around him, he can't help being mistrustful, and that's fair enough - most of the people he's ever met have been manipulating him, exploiting his simple and clearly stated objectives to get him to do what they want. Even when he sees how clearly he's being manipulated (by Ovan, by Yata, by Sakaki...) he won't be deterred... the objective is the most important thing, even if he'll storm through the manipulator's goals kicking and screaming angrily. He used to take it out on the people around him, acting bitter and resentful towards anyone that looked at him even slightly wrong, but he has since toned down and is attempting to let bygones be bygones now that the stakes are finally minimal to null. He isn't quite the arrogant jackass he once was either, but he's still no foreigner to occasionally boasting or more likely these days, being completely patronizing. He knows his strengths, he knows his limits, and when someone is challenging him he does rise to meet it.
In general, Haseo is very blunt and rude to nearly everyone he speaks to in any context. He can get loud and angry as well. There's certainly nothing that holds him back from speaking his mind when he gets furious at someone, and he'll yell and curse and spit every hateful thought when someone's crossed him. However, even though it's easy for him to say nasty things when they come to mind (or even more ambivalent comments that sound a lot worse than intended), Haseo has a hard time being that open about compliments. He struggles to say nice things, or to say how he feels about someone... many times he deflects the conversation entirely and ruminates on his feelings alone. Some times he is shown to try and express fondness through simpler gestures like gifts, particularly gifts with some sort of poetic symbolism (he learned honeysuckles' meaning through Shino, he knows what chrysanthemums mean, and both usernames he had reference Matsuo Bashou... he's clearly a bit of a well-read nerd despite his rougher demeanor). He clearly has an easier time sending people more honest and thoughtful written messages, as he awkwardly stumbles over words or struggles to find the right words when someone is being kind to him and he wants to somehow return the feelings. However, if any friend of his is in need of guidance, the awkwardness immediately stops while Haseo can find the words that he thinks they need to hear. Usually the words aren't gentle, and they're very realistic... but they're always meant to remind someone that they have to overcome their challenges and that they can do that. He won't hear any excuses, and he won't tolerate any flimsy reasoning. Even if the words are harsh, he doesn't try to soften the blow because a soft blow is never what they really need. In this way, many of his friends become very fond of him and it's usually after a conversation like this that Haseo tends to get a bit more comfortable around them, presumably because they took his help to heart and stepped forward as bravely as he told them to, which he has respect for.
He makes friends with all types of people. He befriends very normal players like Silabus and Gaspard, he learns to work well and trust corporate types like Pi and Yata, he tolerates complete weirdos like Natsume or Piros the 3rd... sometimes he gets frustrated with them, but he tries not to blow up in their face or abandon them just because they weird him out. He has even befriended some of his former enemies, learning more about them and learning to understand them and work with them instead of against them. No matter who it is that calls him to join a quest or otherwise go adventuring, he'll go. He seems to enjoy the time spent on those quests and the time spent with his friends, enjoying the distraction or even just having fun with exploring. He's awkward at times, but he values his friends very highly and holds them very close to heart. If anything happens to his friends, he falls apart - he cries, grieves, wails, and laments. He may move forward to keep helping them or helping other friends, but never without a huge helping of sorrow for the people that've gotten hurt and that he couldn't save.
Abilities: I don't know how you'd prefer to weaken or disable these abilities, so feel free to let me know! I'm perfectly amenable to whatever limitations you feel is best for Empatheias.
⬣Adept Rogue Class, AKA multiclassing; this means that normally, Haseo has a pair of Twin Blades, a Broadsword, a Scythe, and finally a pair of Dual Guns which are unique to Haseo.
⬣"Summoning" different weapons between attacks, the weapons appearing and disappearing in a flash of light instead of taking up space. Here is a video of Haseo 'drawing' his dual guns out for the first time. This is most prominent when he is fighting, and can switch between weapons in mere seconds without losing anything to the ground.
⬣Specific to his Dual Guns; 'infinite' ammunition. The guns have a total of 8 shots before they need to be reloaded, but Haseo need only hit the Guard button for them to reload by themselves.
⬣Dash; Haseo can slide across the ground to easily outspeed and dodge enemy attacks.
⬣Avatar Skeith: Haseo's most important power, and one he almost never uses if he can help it. After a few times of hurting other people with it early on, he only summons it when there are no other options. Skeith is the Phase known as the "Terror of Death", and fights with a scythe, can blast opponents with projectiles, and can use Data Drain when the foe is weakest to finish the enemy and collect data/information/power from them.

Alignment: Daimonia. Haseo in canon expresses a lot of emotions very strongly, and part of his personality is never holding back... but more strongly and frequently than other feelings, he expresses grief and happiness. In most bad situations, he feels grief, betrayal and sadness more than anger and in most good situations he seems to respond happily (although he acts reserved).
Other: Taking from this response, I'm applying as Haseo rather than Ryou Misaki (the player behind the character) into Empatheias. The character design and powers of Haseo are more colorful and fun, and in terms of Empatheias' lore, Ryou's major conflicts were high school conflicts whilst the biggest emotional drama of his life took place in The World ("all of the feelings I've carved into The World" being one of the more poignant phrases from near the end of the game). I'm sure you all don't mind either way, but I figured I should at least put down my reasoning!
